Hi,

Good Day.

I'm a novice to linux and trying fedoracore 9 as NIS server using VMware, i followed the steps from

linuxhomenetworking.com/Quick_HOWTO Ch30_:_Configuring_NIS

I started in the "Configuring the NIS Server" portion and Installed ypserve rpm for fedora9 i386, all worked fine until after i start ypbind service, when i do rpcinfo -g localhost the service is not available..but if i do service ypbind status, it shows it as running..

now if i create an nis user and i do ypmatch it will give me "can't match key user in map passwd.byname: Internal NIS error"

hope anybody can help or give me advice on this..

thanks,
I want that when I perform any task by running command(s) or scripts, a timer or progress should display in the screen (i.e. in % or remaining time format). This will help me to figure out that how long the running command or script will take time which will help me to perform other tasks inbetween. I couldn't figure out the solution.
Has anyone had any experience with this yet?

Purpose: Create a theme that is supported in vBulletin 3.8

Other Information: The current "Retro Blue" theme was created for vBulletin version 3.6 and is now unsupported by its creator. Fortunately, the theme survived the upgrade to v3.7 after a number of modifications. vBulletin v3.8 is about to be released. Prior to its release I'd like to migrate the forums over to a theme based on the default style with very few modifications. This will allow the forums to be upgraded with fewer issues.

I have created a new "LHN 1.0" theme which you can select from a drop down menu at the bottom left hand side of this page.

Many of the icons and style elements of Retro Blue have been maintained. The forum is also brighter and registered users will see much less advertising.

The monthly community bulletin will also announce this. To receive the community bulletin you need to enable "Receive Community Bulletin Newsletters" in your profile options.

Poll Question: Is this a site modification that requires a vote from the entire membership, or can this be implemented without one? This is part of the change process.

hello guys

hi guys
I want to end up with a bootable DVD that will automagically start the kickstart script and perform an unattended install. I have read a few things that say that ks.cfg must be in the root of the image. I've read other things that say that isolinux/ is really the root, and so the ks.cfg must be there. Neither work. In my isolinux.cfg, I have:

label ks
kernel vmlinuz
append ks=cdrom:/ks.cfg initrd=initrd.img ramdisk_size=8192

ks.cfg is in isolinux/ as well as the top-level directory. What am I missing? How do I get the booted OS to read and use ks.cfg?

also i had added "default ks" in isolinux.cfg file
i had used the following command to make the isoimage of ks.cfg i had placed my dump of fedora8 in /bkup/dump3
"mkisofs -o ../cdrom.iso -A 'ISOLINUX' -V 'ISOLINUX' -b isolinux.bin -c boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table ."

also the .treeinfo and .diskinfo both hidden files are present.
then i created the isoimage of my dump with the command
"mkisofs -o /fedora.iso -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table /bkup/dump3."
then i burned the iso image "fedora.iso" to a dvd with the help of k3b
the dvd is bootable but at boot time when prompt comes i gave the command "linux ks=cdrom:/ks.cfg"

but its giving me the error
RAMDISK: compressed image found at block 0
crc error
VFS:cannot open root device "<null>" or unknown-block (253,0)
please appened a coorect "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:
